What Are Same-Day Crowns?

You may think traditional dental crowns and same-day crowns are mostly alike. However, there are distinct differences between the two restorations. Our dentist will sit down with you and determine if same-day crowns meet your unique dental needs. We'll also take this time to answer your questions and give you the information you need to make confident decisions about your oral health.

Traditional Crowns: A traditional dental crown is like a same-day crown in that both serve as a protective covering placed over your tooth. Typically, traditional crowns require at least two dental appointments; however, the number can vary from patient to patient. Your first appointment involves removing any damaged or decayed portions of your tooth, shaping the tooth, taking detailed impressions, and providing you with a temporary crown. Once we receive your permanent crown from a lab, we'll have you come in for a second appointment to place it and make any necessary adjustments.

Same-Day Crowns: Using state-of-the-art CEREC® technology, our practice can provide you with a beautiful and durable crown in a single appointment to help lessen the impact on your schedule. Like a traditional crown, we'll begin by removing damaged portions of your tooth and preparing it for your crown. However, unlike a traditional crown, we don't have to send out impressions to have your restoration created. Our office uses a CBCT scanner to take digital impressions of your tooth. Afterward, our Whittier CEREC machine will create a detailed and lifelike crown by carving it out of a ceramic block. We'll then place your crown and adjust it for a secure and comfortable fit.

Why You May Need a Crown
